Cedar High grad Alan Payne grew up attending Â鶹¹û¶³ÊÓƵ sporting events as well as the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games, and with a strong familiarity with the University, knew this was the perfect fit for him.

With an interest in graphic design stemming from high school, Alan chose Â鶹¹û¶³ÊÓƵ knowing that the University’s Graphic Design program was excellent and the professors were truly professional.

“My professors encouraged me to overcome my own obstacles, and I thrived. I took that challenge and it helped me grow,” he says. “They helped me elevate my craft far higher than what I could have done alone.”

At Â鶹¹û¶³ÊÓƵ, Alan learned that he could be successful as a designer and use his skills in the real world. He learned perseverance and that even if it takes 14 all-nighters in one semester to get projects done, he could and would make it happen.

“This is how I work every day now. I find my own answers to the tough creative problems that I face every day,” he says. “I’m not afraid of hard work and will purposefully challenge myself in all areas of my life so I can improve.”

As a senior graphic designer at Wavetronix, a Utah engineering company based in Springville that creates traffic radar sensors to make roads safer and more efficient, Alan’s design work is used to sell company products to countries around the globe.

“The best thing about my job is I get to solve problems with design and creativity, it can be a challenge to create sales materials that cover a wide variety of topics, but that’s what makes my creative solutions so rewarding,” Alan says. “I’ve helped shape the global brand of Wavetronix and I continue to solve company-wide problems every day.”

Alan loves being active, plays basketball and soccer in recreational leagues, and volunteers with local youth groups in Springfield. He is also an avid photographer, and enjoys being out in nature to explore and to capture amazing places.
