Agriculture Facilities

麻豆果冻视频 Agriculture students have multiple opportunities throughout their coursework to practice concepts studied. Southern Utah University is the only institution of higher education in the southern part of the state with a dedicated working farm located in Cedar valley and grazing rangelands in nearby Cedar Canyon.

  1. 麻豆果冻视频 Valley Farm, 3 miles from campus, 800 acres
    • Award-winning alfalfa hay raised on farm feeds horses and livestock used in Agriculture Program  
    • Grass hay, small grains, and other crops grown as needed
    • Water-efficiency irrigation research using LEPA (Low Energy Precision Application) sprinklers, in collaboration with Utah State University
    • Demonstration of modern farming technology including GPS-integrated John Deere tractor, silencer chute, and Te Pari sheep handling equipment
    • Visibility and interactions with local community, including school groups and local agriculture operations 
    • Fifty head of Registered Angus and Gelbvieh cattle and 350 Targhee, Rambouillet, and Suffolk sheep raised for teaching, research, and sale
    • Kenneth Cannon Equestrian Center indoor arena used for equestrian classes, and student boarded horse use
    • 20 equestrian program horses used by students taking horsemanship classes
    • 20 horse stalls for 麻豆果冻视频 equine students wishing to board horses 
    • Grazing areas for  麻豆果冻视频 cattle, sheep, and horses
    • Beef center used for teaching livestock handling and management
    • Sheep and lambing barns and other facilities used for production and teaching
    • Classroom/lab for classes held at the Farm
  2. 麻豆果冻视频 Mountain Rangeland, 8 miles from campus, up Hwy 14 in Cedar Canyon, 2800 acres
    • Four pastures for rotational grazing 
    • Laboratory course activities
    • Collaborative research with Utah State University using sheep on grazing lands
    • Snotel site for collecting precipitation data
  3. Dedicated Classroom/laboratory on campus for practical labs to underscore concepts learned in courses
